Waterproofing for Distributed Solar Solution Installation

Nowadays, the use of distributed solar solution has become more and more broad under the support and guidance of national and local government. It’s the mainstream in the future.

However, being in the introductory stage to market, the design and construction of distributed solar solution intermingles good ones and bad ones. In particular, rooftop waterproofing is easily to be neglected, which will influence the sense of experience for both solar system and users’ houses.

Therefore, rooftop waterproofing would be today’s theme.


Principles for Rooftop Waterproofing
The principle for rooftop waterproofing is “guiding instead of blocking”, which means leading water to ground while keeping rooftop without leaking.

For different kinds of rooftop, installers should handle with different methods depends on site conditions.

Concrete Flat Rooftop Waterproofing
For constructions under-building, bolts should be buried at the beginning. For built constructions, waterproofing structure should be designed above anchor plate and bolts, and sealing treatment should be down around anchor bolt, for example, filling with waterproofing gasket cement. In additional, adding waterproofing layer beneath anchor plate to avoid water penetrating into structural part.


The Using of Chemical Bolt
For built constructions with concrete roof, the thickness of roof must be checked when using chemical anchor bolt. For instance, pouring some concrete on rooftop to fix chemical anchor plate.
For slope rooftop covered with ties, installers should make clear drilling depth and paint waterproofing gasket cement on bolt.

On metal roof, solar solution will penetrate roof waterproofing layer and steel plate.




The penetrating spot should be blocked with gasket cement. Some metal plate with corrosion need to be changed before installing solar system.

To conclude, the installation of solar panels need to take sunlight, shadows and bearing weight, water drainage, water proofing into consideration.

Whats monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar?

Monocrystalline silicon solar cells are mainly made of monocrystalline silicon. Compared with other types of solar cells, monocrystalline silicon cells have the highest conversion efficiency. In the early stage, monocrystalline silicon solar cells occupied the majority of the market share, only after 1998 to take second place to polysilicon market share.
after 2004 the market share of monocrystalline silicon rose slightly, and now the majority of the cells in the market have monocrystalline silicon. Silicon crystal of monocrystalline silicon solar cell is very perfect, its optical, electrical and mechanical properties are very uniform, the color of the battery is mostly black or dark, especially suitable for cutting into small pieces to make small consumer products. The conversion efficiency of monocrystalline silicon cells is 24.7% in the laboratory. The conversion efficiency of commercial silicon cells is 10%-18%.Due to manufacturing process problems, monocrystalline silicon solar cell is generally semi-silicon ingot into cylindrical feed, and then after slicing -> cleaning -> diffusion production -> removal electrode -> production electrode -> corrosion peripheral -> evaporation and reflection reduction film core made of finished products. Generally, the four corners of monocrystalline silicon solar cells are rounded corners. The thickness of monocrystalline silicon solar cells is generally 200uM-350uM thicken making polysilicon solar cells, the high purity silicon used as the raw material is not purified into a single crystal, but is melted and cast into square ingots, which are then processed and sliced like monocrystalline silicon for similar processing.
Polycrystalline from its surface is easy to recognize, silicon is composed of a large number of different sizes of crystallization area (surface crystal crystal), the generating mechanism and single crystal are the same, but because of the silicon wafer by multiple grain group in different size, different orientation, the grain interface photoelectric conversion are susceptible to interference, thus polysilicon conversion rate is relatively low, at the same time, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties of polycrystalline silicon monocrystalline silicon solar cells, good consistency. The maximum efficiency of polycrystalline silicon solar cell laboratory is 20.3%, and the commercial solar cells are generally 10%-16%. Polycrystalline silicon solar cells are square pieces, which have the highest filling rate when making solar modules, and the products are relatively beautiful. The thickness of polycrystalline silicon solar cells is generally 220uM-300uM thick, some manufacturers have produced 180uM thick solar cells, and to thin development, more to save expensive silicon materials.
